Save or Splurge - Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid vs MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer

I have not done one of these posts in so long now i thought it might be time to do another Save or Splurge post. The first thing i want to say is this post is not a colour dupe post its more of a product dupe post in terms of Matte liquid lipsticks.
So to get started im actually rather surprised at the quality of the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer because if you saw my review of the Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid* i talked about how i was sceptical i mean another matte liquid lipstick how good can it really be?

The MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer come in a variety of different shades all very bright the shades i decided on picking up where Criminal and Funk. Criminal is an insanely bright hot pink a definite warm tone then we have Funk which is a warm toned but this colour is quite a deep pink. Both colours are extremely pigmented the pigment actually surprised me i would even go as far to say that these are the epitome of opaque. What i like most about these are they are very creamy and dry fast which is great because you dont want to be waiting around for them to dry. I have to say they remind me of the Lime Crime Velvetines
Best of all? These are only £2 from Superdrug

Here we have the Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid in Forbidden which is a cool toned pink described as a "Sensual Pink" which to be honest i do love this in its own way but i think i love the MUA Lux Velvet Lip Lacquer more, Simply because it feels much better it feels like there s nothing there. The texture of them is completely different and thats what i like, Matte Lip Liquids are more "liquidy" whereas the Velvet Lip Lacquers are more of a cream formula in terms of drying time to get to the matte shade again MUA wins because it took about 5 minutes from them to try down to a completely matte finish that doesn't move or smudge whereas the Illamasqua tends to take longer to dry down around about 10/15 minutes.
They both have different wands for application Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid has a brush and the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer has a doe foot applicator i prefer the doe foot as you have more control over your application this way and its easier to get product out of the tube as well

The last thing i wanted to talk about was wear time these both wear really well i think the Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid might be a bit better in terms of wear giving you around an hour or 2 more than the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer

As you can see below there is no question they are both really pigmented but i just like the look of the MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer. I dont know if its just me but it seems more opaque to me

Left to Right-  MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer (Criminal and Funk) , Illamasqua Matte Liquid Lip (Forbidden)

I think this is where a lot of you will see how you can get a fantastic product and not need to pay a lot of it. Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquids are £18.50 whereas the MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer are only £2 thats a saving of £16.50 you could buy around 9 of the MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer for the price of 1 Illamasqua Matte Lip Liquid
As i say with all of these posts if you prefer Illamasqua thats great go for that one but if you prefer the MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer thats great too its all about picking whats best for you

What one is your favourite?

The MUA ones look so good! I love a good matte lip, especially when it's such good value for money! What gorgeous colours too! Will definitely pick a couple up, great review! Xx

  2. I've not tried either, but would probably go for the MUA offering if it's over £15 cheaper and just as good (if not better on some points) as the Illamasqua lip liquid.

  4. I didn't like the MUA luxe lip lacquer at all! I am madly in live with the bourgois rouge edition velvets - IMO the best matte liquid lip colour. They last all day throughout numerous Starbucks, lunch etc. The colour range is beautiful too and I use these more than my lime crime valentines!

  6. I think with brighter colours, and ones I am going to wear less often I always opt for the budget version. And it looks like MUA have done well here!

  9. I've not tried out the MUA velvet lacquers yet (despite having 2 - d'oh) but I do have Lime Crime's Velvetines, KVD's liquid lipstick, Sleek's matte me and Stila's version too and I definitely got along better with those than my Illamasqua one. Most of them are cheaper too, I definitely think save. Also most of Illamasqua's shades come off too neon on those of us with darker skin. As a huge fan, gutted.

  10. The 'velvet' bit puts me off, I hate anything to do with velvet, makes me shudder if it touches my skin, yes weird I know lol xx

  11. Nearly bought the MUA one recently but was swayed by Topshop's velvet lip! Might give it a go now!

  13. I loved the MUA one when I first tried it but I found it flaked and crumbled after about an hour of wear which wasnt a good look. I still love my lime crime one but bourjois velvet lips are the ones that I am wearing most days
