Hey Beauties!
In all the years that I have been blogging I just realised that I have never done a post on how to clean brushes! So, I thought today would be a perfect opportunity to show you all how I personally clean my brushes.
I much prefer using brush soap over baby shampoo to clean my brushes because a lot of brush soaps are made to be either anti bacterial or sanitising so when working with clients I know that they are as clean as they can be..
My favourite brush soap right now is the Freedom Makeup Pro Studio Brush Bath (£7.00) which is used by wetting down the brush and swirling in the tub and rinsing the product away.
Cleaning your brushes is so important not just for hygiene reasons but also because clean brushes mean better makeup application. If your brushes are clogged with foundation, concealer, eye makeup etc then you're not only spreading remnants of last week's makeup all over your face you're also spending a lot of bacteria all over your face which is never good.
When cleaning my brushes I always like to use a coarse natural sponge, I’ve had this one for a good few years now and it’s still going strong. These are a fantastic idea for cleaning your brushes because it not only does it speed up cleaning time but it also helps to loosen all that foundation that's held in the bristles. As you can see the coarse natural sponge is really textured too and this helps to remove all sorts of makeup really easily.
If you're not into the idea of using a coarse natural sponge you can also use this little gadget from Makeup Revolution (£4.99) which works in the same manner. The textured parts of this little gadget help to break down the makeup particles in your brushes making it easier and faster to wash your brushes.
Tresemme might be completely horrible for your hair but it’s perfect for your brushes, I used to use this all the time before I found out about brush soaps. I really love this as a brush cleaner because it’s so deep cleansing and it helps to get rid of all the makeup residue without damaging or ruining your makeup brushes.

I thought I would just insert a video to show you all how I go about cleaning my brushes. I tried to do it at the sink but it didn't work out very well ha ha.
I use johnsons baby shampoo, it's the best product I've ever found!

Yes to the brush egg, and a decent cleaner, although I will use shampoo on thicker brushes as it seems to get right in there.
ReplyDeleteI clean my brushes every Sunday!!! I use the Sigma express mat and whatever cleanser I have on hand. Since I have major acne…cleaning my brushes is a must! Great post!
