How to Take Care Of Colour Treated Hair

Hey Beauties!

Today i thought i would do a post on how best to take care of hair thats been coloured as it seems more and more people are getting it done all the time.

My first tip would be to get a good colour safe shampoo you can either buy from department stores or buy from the drugstore just make sure you're using the right products for your hair. I really like the Ojon Colour Sustain Shampoo and Conditioner as you might guess it helps to extend wear of your colour as over time your colour can either go dull or if you have anything other than Permanent colour in your hair it's going to fade. Another big tip would be to avoid sulfates in your hair products as well as contain salt, which strip away moisture which is one of the main causes of color fading.

2. Try turning down the temperature of the water when washing your hair as high temperatures will open the cuticle and some of the colour molecules escape causing your colour to fade faster than it should, you could also give your hair a "cold shot" when your finish as this will help to close the cuticle.

3. Try to only wash your hair at most 2/3 times a week this will also help to prolong your colour because if you have a semi permanent (14 washes) or a quasi (24 washes) in your hair then you only have a specific amount of washes before you need to get it done again

4. Get a good hair mask, if you're a regular reader you'll know that im in love with the brand Ojon and i love their Restorative Hair Treatment* which claims to return hair to its virgin state after using it regularly, to be quite honest i didn't believe them these claims rarely turn out to be true okay maybe it didn't make my hair virgin again but it did smooth down the frizz, it did make it feel softer and it did make my hair look better overall. 5. I know i keep recommending products because that's what i think works but label.m protein spray it's basically what i would call "Hair Food" it's is another one of those products that works fantastically on coloured hair as it helps to even out the porosity of your hair, helps to protect against heat damage, protects against UVA/UVB, also helps to protect your colour and prevent fading.

6. If your hair is damaged from bleaching and colouring invest in a good hair oil, i know i say oil and some of you think weighed down greasy mess but there are hair oils out there that are very light but offer big things in terms of helping repair your hair and leaving it looking better and feeling better. The one i usually use and love is the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil* it contains a mixture of 6 nourishing oils to help soften, silken, tame, de-frizz, detangle and protect. The oil vanishes into hair, leaving a smooth feathersoft feel and a trace of shine.

7. For the Blondes out there who like to bleach their hair try using silver shampoo this will help to rid you of those horrible brassy tones that end up happening to your hair products like Bleach Silver Shampoo and Conditioner work great on blondes, i would only really use this once a week at most you dont want to end up turning your hair purple. If you dont want to use a shampoo you could also oft for a more natural method, you could use Chamomile tea which is a natural lightener. Chamomile has a calming effect on the scalp and will help to condition your hair making it softer and shiner

8. Last but by no means least dont forget to get regular hair cuts. If your hair is damaged and you do have a lot of split ends in the long run it's easier for you to get them cut of when there is only an inch instead of having to get 3 or 4 inches cut off because the split ends have gotten worse and broken even more
